Bauchi State Government Shuts Down 39 Private Colleges of Education for Lack of Registration
The Bauchi State Government has closed 39 private colleges of education due to non-compliance with registration requirements.
At a news conference on Thursday, Mrs. Lydia Tsammani, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, revealed that these institutions lacked approval from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and did not meet infrastructure standards.
Tsammani explained, “These colleges were operating in primary schools and used temporary arrangements, including borrowing teachers. They had no tangible infrastructure to qualify as proper colleges.”
The Commissioner noted that unregistered colleges were given a six-month deadline to complete their registration or face further action. Meanwhile, 12 colleges with NCCE approval are permitted to continue, provided they hire qualified staff, pay their registration fees, and improve their facilities.
“The institutions must admit only qualified candidates and update their equipment,” Tsammani added. “Some are still using outdated technology like analogue typewriters.”
