Bauchi State University Renamed to Honor Late Nationalist Sa’adu Zungur
The name change honors Mallam Sa’adu Zungur, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and politician.
Bauchi State University Gadau has been officially renamed Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) following approval from the institution’s governing council. This decision was sanctioned by Governor Bala Mohammed after the State House of Assembly passed the bill for the renaming.
The resolution was made during a council meeting on June 14, led by Chairman Prof. Ango Abdullahi. The name change honors Mallam Sa’adu Zungur, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and politician.

Prof. Fatimah Tahir, Vice-Chancellor of the university, emphasized that the renaming reflects the university's commitment to integrity, leadership, and excellence, and celebrates Zungur’s lasting impact on education in Bauchi State.
