Borno State University Renamed to Kashim Ibrahim University

The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has signed into law the bill renaming Borno State University (BOSU) to Kashim Ibrahim University, effective August 4, 2025. This decision was made in honor of Sir Kashim Ibrahim, the first Governor of Northern Nigeria.

The Registrar of the university, Mrs. Jallaba M. Sheikh, has urged all principal officers, staff, and the general public to take note of the change and ensure compliance. All correspondence, circulars, and official documents within and outside the university should henceforth bear the new name, Kashim Ibrahim University.

The renaming of the university is subject to legislative procedures and necessary notifications to relevant authorities, including the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The Borno State Executive Council approved the renaming during its first meeting of 2025, chaired by Governor Zulum.
