BSU Management Conducts Flood Risk Assessment Tour as River Benue Water Levels Rise

The Management of Benue State University (BSU) embarked on a critical assessment tour on Monday, September 23, 2024, to evaluate areas prone to flooding due to the rising water level of the River Benue. The team, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mike Odugbo Odey, visited key sites, including the New Makurdi Head Bridge, the University Water Works, and the Faculty of Law Complex, all situated along the riverbank.

During the tour, Professor Odey emphasized the importance of assessing these vulnerable areas to gather firsthand information necessary for preventive action against potential flooding. "The assessment is crucial to enable us to identify proactive measures that will safeguard the university community and its surroundings from the impact of the anticipated flood," he stated.

He further noted that the university would prepare a detailed report with recommendations for the institution’s Visitor and Executive Governor of Benue State, calling for necessary interventions to mitigate the risks.

The assessment tour included key university officials such as the Acting Registrar, Ahola Orgeh; Head of the Department of Geography, Dr. Johnson Mage; Dr. Patricia Ali; Coordinator of Physical Planning, QS Joseph Unum; Coordinator of Maintenance, Engr. Andrew Aondoyila Andza; and Dr. Bibiana Ayabam from the Information and Public Relations Unit.
