Highlighting the historical significance of the 34-kilometre road, which dates back to its construction in 1975 during the administration of Gen. Yakubu Gowon and Brig. Gen. Mobolaji Johnson, Adebogun praised the intervention of the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, in approving its reconstruction.

Adebogun emphasized the critical role of the Ikorodu-Itokin Road as a major access point connecting various parts of the country. Moreover, it serves as a strategic route to the burgeoning Lekki-Ibeju corridor, housing essential infrastructures like the Dangote Refinery, Lagos deep seaport, and free trade zone.
