Caleb University has recorded another major academic milestone following the impressive performance of its College of Law at the recently concluded ACA/PILIWA Moot Court Competition for Nigerian University Law Students.

The highly competitive legal contest, organised by the Advocate for Community Alternatives (ACA) in partnership with the Public Interest Lawyering Initiative for West Africa (PILIWA), was hosted at the university’s Magodo City Campus and attracted leading law faculties from across the South-West region of Nigeria.

The competition featured intense courtroom advocacy sessions centred on international law, human rights, and environmental law. Participating students were assessed on legal reasoning, depth of research, analytical precision, advocacy skills, eloquence, and courtroom discipline.

At the end of the competition, Lagos State University emerged overall winner with 75.5 per cent, while Caleb University secured second position nationwide with 75.0 per cent. Olabisi Onabanjo University finished third, followed by Crescent University, Abeokuta, the University of Lagos, and the University of Ibadan.

Further highlighting Caleb University’s strong outing at the competition, Miss Haliyah Baruwa, a 400-level Law student of the institution, emerged Best Oralist of the Competition after delivering an exceptional advocacy performance that drew commendation from judges and participants alike.

Her presentation stood out for its clarity, confidence, articulation, and mastery of legal argumentation during the moot court sessions.

The result has been widely celebrated within the university community as another reflection of Caleb University’s growing reputation for academic excellence, advocacy training, and practical legal education.

The competition also provided participating students with practical exposure to courtroom procedure, legal drafting, and public interest litigation, while strengthening inter-university academic engagement within Nigeria’s legal education sector.
