Amid controversy surrounding the death of a female student from Ebonyi State University (EBSU), identified as Favour Ugwuka where her mother has accused a lecturer of causing her daughter to commit suicide. Nigerians are calling for an investigation into the lecturer.
Favour reportedly took her own life at her hostel in Ishieke, Abakaliki, after repeatedly failing a particular course taught by the lecturer, Dr. Enyi, who had allegedly vowed that she would never pass.

The sentiment is echoed by many who believe that the lecturer's actions, if proven to be malicious, could constitute grounds for manslaughter charges. “The school should investigate. If the student actually wrote the exam well and the lecturer failed her on purpose, then he should be tried for manslaughter, at least,” another added. “The lecturer should be arrested, and a review of the scripts she wrote over and over again should be made available for a court hearing,” another mentioned. The tragic incident has brought attention and concerns about the treatment of students in Nigerian universities.
Many have highlighted the prevalence of failing students by lecturers, desdcribing it as a systemic isse that needs to be addressed urgently. "This is something that happens daily in our schools and it's becoming too much,"one concerned individual remarked.
