The Custos Care Foundation (CCF), a non-governmental organization focused on child protection and rights, has strongly condemned the recent brutal treatment of a student at the Federal Government College, Enugu. The condemnation follows the circulation of a disturbing video showing a male student, reportedly a junior, being mercilessly beaten by two senior students using waist belts.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked outrage from members of the public and raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students within the institution. CCF has called for immediate action, urging the school management to identify and apprehend the students responsible for the assault.

In a statement, the Managing Director of CCF, Mrs. Egodi Igwe, emphasized the need for all stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, and students, to publicly denounce the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. "This act of bullying is not just a violation of school rules but a severe infringement on the rights of the victim. It is crucial that the school management takes swift and decisive steps to prevent such incidents from recurring," she said.

The Custos Care Foundation also called for a comprehensive review of the school's policies on bullying and violence, urging for stricter enforcement of disciplinary measures. "No student should feel unsafe or subjected to violence in an educational environment. We stand with the victim and demand justice," Mrs. Igwe added.

Earlier this year, the leadership of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the Federal Government College, Enugu, had pledged to address the growing issue of student bullying. The Chairman of the PTA, Chinedu Mbah, reassured parents and guardians that measures would be put in place to prevent such incidents, stating that junior students would no longer be subjected to brutalization by their senior counterparts.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the public eagerly awaits the actions that the school management and authorities will take to uphold the safety and dignity of every student.
