The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the monthly allowance for corps members will be increased once the federal government implements the new minimum wage. This was disclosed by the NYSC Director General, Yusha’u Ahmed, during his address to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream two corps members at orientation camps in Kebbi and Sokoto states.
Currently, corps members across Nigeria receive a monthly allowance of ₦33,000. Ahmed assured that this amount would be raised in line with the new minimum wage once it is implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He emphasized the invaluable contributions of corps members to the country’s socio-economic development.
Ahmed also encouraged corps members to use their service year to develop skills and plan for their future. He urged them to participate in the NYSC skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme, highlighting the success of former corps members who have become self-reliant and job creators.
The NYSC Director-General called on the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to include NYSC members in the new minimum wage implementation. He stressed the importance of a robust welfare package for corps members to support their contributions to national development.
