Chibok Community Continues to Seek Return of 87 Schoolgirls 10 Years After Abduction

Nearly a decade after the abduction of 276 female students at Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, families of the remaining 87 captives have remained hopeful they will regain freedom and return to the community.

The spokesperson of the affected community, Allen Manasseh, revealed this during a tribute event marking the 70th birthday of Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili, husband of former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili.

The abduction occurred on April 14, 2014, when Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped 276 students, with 57 managing to escape. Manasseh stated that while 132 girls have been recovered, they are still awaiting the return of the remaining 87.

Various activists and individuals, including political activist Rinu Oduala and former Head of Communications at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Okey Ikechukwu, praised the Ezekwesilis for their selfless dedication to the cause. Pastor Ezekwesili, however, humbly expressed his gratitude for the tributes.
