Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Anambra State has made a significant advancement in international collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kentucky State University in the United States. The historic agreement, finalized on September 23, 2024, aims to foster exchange programs and research partnerships between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Koffi Akakpo, the 19th President of COOU, and Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor, during a ceremony in the U.S. The partnership is expected to create valuable opportunities for exchange programs in various fields, including agriculture, nursing sciences, education, and economics. Notably, a COOU staff member will have the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in soil science beginning in spring 2025.

Under Prof. Omenugha’s leadership, COOU has emphasized the importance of international collaboration, guided by its strategic framework known as “3Vs” (values, viability, and visibility). This initiative aims to enhance the university's global standing and has already led to successful partnerships with institutions in Europe and Asia, such as the University of Economics and Innovation in Poland and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in China. COOU has also participated in the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme, further solidifying its commitment to advancing research and education.
