A female student was killed on Monday in a car accident on the campus of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu during celebrations following final year examinations.

A female student was killed on Monday in a car accident on the campus of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu during celebrations following final year examinations. According to an anonymous student, a graduating student driving recklessly in a celebratory mood lost control of the car, which appeared to have brake failure, and ploughed into a crowd of students, hitting several before running over the victim.

A video clip circulating on WhatsApp shows students lifting the car to reveal the body of the unidentified victim underneath.

The IMT management confirmed the incident. Acting Rector Emeka Ejim stated that the deceased was not an IMT student but from Peaceland, a nearby private university. She had come to sign off one of the injured students. Two other female students from the public administration department were also injured and are receiving treatment at Posh Hospital in Enugu. One of the injured students, with a fractured leg, will be transferred to the Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu.

Mr. Ejim announced the indefinite suspension of final year examinations and stated that an emergency meeting would be held to deliberate further. The institution’s spokesperson, Mark Eze, said the suspension was to allow for an investigation into the incident, emphasizing that despite warnings, students engaged in excessive celebrations leading to the tragedy.
