Expectant Mother Excels as Top Graduate of Medical School, Fulfilling Her Dream of Becoming a Doctor

In an inspiring tale of perseverance, Comfort Orubo, a young Nigerian woman, has made headlines by graduating as the top student in Basic Medical Sciences at Niger Delta University, all while navigating the challenges of pregnancy during her final year. 

The proud moment was captured on TikTok, where Comfort shared her experience of walking to the stage at her medical induction ceremony to accept her award, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the crowd. 

“Have you ever seen a pregnant Best Graduating Student? I graduated as the best in Basic Medical Sciences! I cried because I was heavily pregnant and missing my late mother. BGS, Basic Medical Sciences,” she captioned the heartfelt video. 

Comfort had previously obtained her first degree in Human Physiology from the University of Port Harcourt. 

Her lifelong aspiration to become a medical doctor inspired her to start anew in her career path. 

After completing her National Youth Service, she took the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), also known as JAMB, once more and successfully enrolled in the MBBS program at Niger Delta University. 

During her fourth year, she got married and later discovered she was pregnant during her final year after four years of trying to conceive. 

Despite the challenges, Comfort remained unwavering in her commitment to her goals, ultimately achieving success in her medical education. 

Now a licensed medical doctor, she has also welcomed twins into her family. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized that while her dream was delayed, it was never denied. 

“Determination is what truly counts. To my fellow medical students: Life didn’t end when I found out I was pregnant in my final year after four years of trying to conceive. Today, I am a doctor and a proud mother of twins. YOU CAN DO IT TOO,” she shared. 

Comfort’s path to becoming a medical doctor spanned nine years, encompassing her initial degree, NYSC, marriage, and pregnancy, yet she never lost hope. 

She encourages others, especially medical students and aspiring professionals, to remain undeterred by obstacles or delays. 

With determination, persistence, and a clear vision, she believes that anyone can achieve their dreams, regardless of how long it may take.
