Civil Society Group Urges Tinubu's Intervention in UNIABUJA Leadership Crisis
A coalition of 25 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has called on President Tinubu to address the leadership tussle at the University of Abuja, emphasizing support for Acting VC Prof. Aisha Maikudi.
The ongoing leadership crisis at the University of Abuja has intensified, with a coalition of 25 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) rallying behind Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi. The CSOs, under the banner of the Civil Society Coalition for Educational Development, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to step in, citing unwarranted distractions targeted at Maikudi, who they described as a qualified and competent leader.
At a presentation in Abuja, the group condemned recent protests by some professors, labeling their actions as detrimental to the institution. Dr. Wisdom Ohalete Chinedu, speaking on behalf of the coalition, denounced the protests as efforts to undermine Maikudi based on her gender, age, and regional background.
The coalition also highlighted alleged manipulation in past leadership selections at the university and dismissed claims of southern exclusion in the selection process as politically motivated.
They urged the President and the Minister of Education to safeguard Maikudi’s position, punish instigators of the crisis, and establish a truth and reconciliation panel to ensure stability in the institution.
