College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola Caution Students and Staff Against Mischief, Inciting the Public

The Provost, College of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola Dr Lami Aminu has described as mischievous the rumour making the rounds that the College Management was denying Female Muslim Students of wearing Hijab in the School.

Dr Lami who addressed Staff, Students and the School Community at a well  attended town hall meeting said, "wearing of Hijab by Muslim Students was not only ensured to be complied with in College, but also as part of the religious practice that was seen to be protected and sustained".

According to the Provost,it only became a problem when some female students decided to add or abuse the officially approved Hijab dress code by the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

The Council has approved shoulder length Hijab for all Muslim Female Medical Practitioners including Students, and  College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola cannot be an exception.

The Management of the College noticed recently a black Hijab overall gown used on the official dress of the College and frowns at the practice.

Efforts to dissuade the students from wearing an additional top on the official dress was misinterpreted, hijacked by mischief makers to create disharmony within and outside the College, the Provost added.

Recall that tension was heightened last week  when the College's branches of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria(MSSN and Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN)  raised issues with the management alleging that the College Management was infringing on the fundamental Rights of  female Muslim Students when the College was insisting the students appear only in officially approved nurses dress code.

The Islamic Associations according to findings felt there were nothing wrong with the additional overall Hijab the management is rejecting, insisting the shoulder length Hijab recommended was not giving the female students adequate cover.
