DELSUTH Secures Accreditation in Surgery and Other Key Programs

The Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), located in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, has achieved a significant milestone by securing both national and West African accreditation for its Surgery Department. This achievement extends to several other key medical programs, further cementing DELSUTH’s status as a top-tier teaching hospital.

The announcement was made by Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, during a press briefing. Dr. Onojaeme, following a meeting with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, hospital executives, and representatives from the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), highlighted the institution's ongoing efforts to obtain accreditation for additional departments, including Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Community Medicine.

"The leadership of the Hospital Management and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) have expressed their profound appreciation to the Governor for his remarkable contributions towards the hospital’s growth," Dr. Onojaeme stated.

He further disclosed that just a month ago, Governor Oborevwori approved the procurement of a CT scan for the hospital. Staff members have also requested further equipment upgrades to improve working conditions for both employees and patients. Additionally, the Governor has pledged to enhance resources for eco-cardiography and MRI services, promising to expedite the procurement process.

Dr. Onojaeme pointed out a significant shift in the hospital’s funding dynamics. Previously reliant on state government support for department accreditation, DELSUTH's internally generated revenue has seen considerable growth, allowing the hospital to take more responsibility in financing its development initiatives.

During the briefing, Acting Chief Medical Director Dr. Awunor Nyemike, Acting MDCAN Chairman Prof. Jude Uchendu, and NMA State Chairman Dr. Israel Adaigho lauded Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare services in the state.
