The Alumni Association of Ekiti State University (EKSU), under the leadership of its Global President, Ambassador Seyi Idowu, has fully funded the digitisation of the University Library through the deployment of Koha, a globally recognised open-source Integrated Library System (ILS).

Koha, which means “a gift” in the Maori language, is widely used for modern library management, offering advanced tools for cataloguing, circulation, and online access. With its introduction, EKSU’s library operations are now automated, giving students, staff, and researchers seamless access to resources anytime and anywhere.
The new system comes with a range of innovative features, including:

- An Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) that allows remote searching of library holdings.
- Patron self-registration, reducing paperwork and saving time.
- Enhanced cataloguing with batch editing for efficient data management.
- Customised departmental reporting.
- Audit trails to monitor circulation and cataloguing activities.
- Automated exclusion of public holidays in fines calculation.
- A Web 2.0 OPAC where users can review, tag, and share books via social media.
- A visually appealing, user-friendly interface with advanced search capabilities.
- E-library integration with digital versions of books available through Google.
This intervention by the Alumni Association underscores its commitment to advancing EKSU’s academic environment and aligning the institution with global best practices in higher education.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, Ambassador Seyi Idowu reaffirmed the alumni’s dedication to supporting the university’s growth and innovation. The University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, expressed profound appreciation, describing the project as a landmark achievement that positions EKSU as a digital-first institution.
