EKSU Appeals for Calm Over Fee Increment for 2024/2025 Session
This move is also aimed at supplementing the monthly government subvention to the university, which has been recently increased by the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who is also the university’s Visitor.
The management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), has called for calm among stakeholders, particularly students, following the marginal adjustment in fees for prospective students in the 2024/2025 academic session.
The university’s Governing Council, after considering the country's economic challenges and the need to maintain quality service, decided to slightly increase the fees for new students starting from the 2024/2025 session. This move is also aimed at supplementing the monthly government subvention to the university, which has been recently increased by the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who is also the university’s Visitor.
The decision was driven by rising operational costs due to a 200% increase in the prices of goods and services caused by high inflation. Despite these challenges, the fee adjustment for new students is set at only 50%. The university emphasized that this increase affects only freshers, with fees for continuing students remaining unchanged. Additionally, the acceptance fee for freshers has not been increased, unlike in many other universities.
The management assured that the adjustment is necessary to ensure the continued provision of quality education and state-of-the-art facilities, maintaining the university’s standing among global institutions.
