Enugu State Law Students Appeal to Governor Mbah to Avert Financial Abyss

Enugu State law students, organized under the National Association of Enugu State Law Students, have sent an open letter to Governor Peter Mbah, urgently appealing for the approval of bursaries to mitigate the financial challenges posed by a sudden increase in tuition fees.
The students, in pursuit of a career in law at the Nigerian Law School, fear that the unexpected hike in fees from N296,000 to N476,000, coupled with a limited payment window, jeopardizes their dreams and puts a significant burden on their aspirations.

In the letter titled 'Re: Urgent Appeal for Emergency Financial/Bursary Assistance For Enugu State Law School Students,' signed by National President Stephen Obiora, National Secretary Ugwuoke Obisike, and National Public Relations Officer Aguoma Uzoamaka, the association commended Governor Mbah on his upheld victory by the Supreme Court and acknowledged his commitment to supporting the Nigerian Law School in October 2023.

Expressing their grievances, the students revealed that they had previously written to the governor's office twice, along with the deputy governor, without receiving any response. They stressed that the financial situation, if not promptly addressed, would not only be a personal loss to the students but also a significant setback for the state's legal profession.

The students emphasized the potential repercussions of denying them access to the Law School, stating, "This financial issue has put a full worrisome burden on us…denying us access to the Law School because of this sudden financial burden would not only be a personal tragedy for each of us but also a significant loss to the Enugu State legal profession, of which you are also a part, Your Excellency."
The association urged Governor Mbah to consider the urgency of their plea and take swift action to approve the bursaries, preventing a crisis that could have broader implications for both the students and the state's legal community.
