Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has donated N100 million to FUT Minna for building student hostels, emphasizing collaboration among the state’s institutions and supporting the university's medical school initiative.
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, widely known as the "Farmer Governor," has pledged N100 million to the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) to support the construction of student hostels. Governor Bago announced the donation during a meeting with the university’s governing council at the Government House in Minna.
Governor Bago stressed the need for greater collaboration among all tertiary institutions in Niger State. He advocated for inter-institutional synergy in research and program exchanges to accelerate educational development, aligning with the state government's vision of transforming Niger State into an educational hub.
Additionally, Governor Bago expressed readiness to partner with FUT Minna on the state’s Green Initiative. He proposed using the university’s vast land for power generation to benefit both the institution and surrounding areas, reducing dependence on the national grid.
The governor also commended FUT Minna’s plan to introduce medical courses, noting that the state government would fully support this development, especially in partnership with the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Bida, which is set to serve as a teaching hospital for the medical school.
Dr. Muhammad Kudu Santuraki, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of FUT Minna’s governing council, shared that the university has made strides in international rankings, consistently placing among Nigeria’s top ten universities over the past three years. FUT Minna currently offers 59 undergraduate and 24 postgraduate programs, with seven newly approved courses and six more in development, reinforcing its mission to expand academic opportunities.
