Federal College of Education Union Distance Themselves from Splinter Group

The Executives and Congress of the Federal University of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU FUE), Kano, have raised concerns regarding a splinter group that has emerged within the institution. This group has established a parallel academic staff union without consideration for the current transitional period the university is undergoing.

Dr. Ado Muhammad Abdullahi, Chairman of the Federal University of Education Union in Kano, criticized the actions of the splinter group, asserting that they are attempting to sow discord and disrupt the existing peace and unity within the union. "This move is nothing but an attempt by a few self-serving individuals to undermine the peaceful and orderly transition process that the Council has set in motion by forming committees and soliciting memorandums from all stakeholders," he stated.

Dr. Abdullahi emphasized that staff unions within the university are generally content and confident in the management's commitment to address their primary concerns during this transition. He highlighted that COEASU continues to operate legitimately in institutions like Alvan Ikoku University of Education in Owerri and Adeyemi University of Education in Ondo, which underwent similar upgrades prior to their own.

While acknowledging the right of any lecturer to withdraw from the union, the Chairman cautioned against actions that could polarize the university community and foster unnecessary animosity. "We cannot allow any mischievous attempts at dividing our ranks and creating chaos among us," he asserted.

In light of the potential threats to harmony and the seamless transition of the institution to its new status, the union leadership has called upon the management to take measures to prevent any rebellions against COEASU. The statement underscores the commitment of the union to uphold unity and cooperation among its members during this critical period.
