ASF Jaiyeobajeje Victor of the Federal Fire Service, Osun State Command, Osogbo, has enlightened the 2022 Batch C Stream II Corps Members on Fire Safety: ways to prevent fire and what to do in case of fire outbreak.
Jaiyeobajeje started his lecture by informing how Federal Fire Service One-L was able to save 59 million naira worth of property recently in Osogbo.
He made this known at a lecture at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Saturday.
Jaiyeobajeje educated the Corps Members that fire is one of the basic tools in our everyday life and its defined as a rapid combination of 2 or more elements. He further educated the Corps Members on the triangle of fire,
the causes of fire which are carelessness, accident, willful act, or arson.
"5 minutes of carelessness can burn down a 10 million naira building", were the words of Jaiyeobajeje during his lecture.

He also advised the Corps Members not to leave the kitchen when cooking as it can equally cause fire outbreaks.
He also took the Corps Members through the classes of fire such as Class A fire, Class B fire, Class C fire, Class D fire, and Class K fire; how to identify them and the best extinguishing agents for each of the types of fire. Examples of some extinguishing agents are - Carbon dioxide (CO2) for Class C fires, DCP for class D fires, etc.

The Corps Members were further educated on methods of extinction which are cooling - removal of heat, starvation - removal of fuel, and smoldering - removal of oxygen.
The Members were also shown practical ways of using the Fire blanket, a bucket of sand to control oil spillage, and fire extinguishers. They were also educated on how to operate an extinguisher using the acronym Pass - Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep.

Jaiyeobajeje concluded by reiterating what the Corps Members should do to prevent or combat fire outbreaks.
