The Federal Government of Nigeria has granted Maranatha University, Lagos, a full operational license, elevating its status from provisional to fully operational. Announced on September 13, 2024, this license, dated September 2, 2024, was issued by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and NUC acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially granted Maranatha University, Lagos, a full operational license, signifying its recognition as a fully operational private university in Nigeria. This significant development was confirmed on Friday, with the license dated September 2, 2024, and signed by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and the acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mr. Chris Maiyaki.

Initially provided with a provisional license, Maranatha University has now achieved full statutory status following the successful completion of a review process conducted by the NUC from April 14 to 16, 2024. The university met all the necessary requirements outlined in the Educational Acts Cap E3 of 2024, including the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) and other operational guidelines.

The university, which operates on Christian principles, is dedicated to becoming a world-class institution built on faith, excellence, and integrity. It aims to contribute significantly to the development of tertiary education both in Nigeria and globally. Maranatha University emphasizes providing innovative academic programs and access to quality education.

The university's name, Maranatha, a Greek term meaning "The Lord is coming," reflects its commitment to Christian values and serves as a reminder of the anticipated second coming of Christ. The institution comprises four faculties: Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences; Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences; Faculty of Environmental Sciences; and Faculty of Engineering, offering a total of 20 programs.

Maranatha University operates two campuses in Lagos: the Okota Campus at Okota-Isolo and the Lekki Campus located at Km 47 Lekki-Epe Expressway. While academic activities at the Lekki Campus, intended for the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, have yet to commence, the Okota Campus is fully operational. Both campuses are equipped with secure residential accommodations for students and modern infrastructure, including practical labs, interactive classrooms, and a well-resourced central library.

Maranatha University is also a member of the Conurbation of Universities in Lagos and is actively developing partnerships with both Nigerian and international institutions, including potential collaborations with institutions in Poland.
