Professor Tahir Mamman, the Minister for Education, has announced that the Federal Government's DOTS initiative has successfully returned four million out-of-school children to their classrooms.
The DOTS initiative, which stands for Data Repository, Out-of-School Children Education, Teacher Training & Development, and Skill Development & Acquisition, has been a critical tool in addressing the country's educational challenges.
This significant achievement was disclosed by the Minister through a statement delivered by the acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Ambassador Chris Maiyaki, who represented him at the 2nd International Conference of Kwara State Universities (KU8+). The conference, themed “Shaping Sustainable Future: Connecting University and Industries Through Joint Initiatives,” highlighted the essential role of universities in national and industrial growth.
While celebrating the success of the DOTS initiative, Professor Mamman acknowledged that there is still much work to be done, particularly in light of the recent 10-day protest that underscored ongoing challenges in the education sector.
The Minister emphasized the critical importance of universities in driving both national development and industry growth, calling for continued collaboration between academic institutions and the private sector to shape a sustainable future for the country.
