UNILAG Vice-Chancellor Urges Staff to Explore NELFUND for Tertiary Education Funding
Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has called on university staff to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative.
Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has called on university staff to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative. Speaking during an impromptu visit to various offices in the UNILAG Senate House, Prof. Ogunsola expressed concern about the lack of interest shown by prospective beneficiaries, including parents, public servants, and students, towards the Students Loan initiative.
Notably, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the disproportionately low participation from students in Western states compared to the robust turnout observed in the North. She emphasized that NELFUND could significantly support staff members in financing their children’s higher education while mitigating the impact of economic challenges on their incomes.
During her second day of office visits, Prof. Ogunsola toured key administrative units within the university. She visited the Human Resources Management Directorate (HRMD) on the second floor, as well as the Audit Unit, Creditor Unit, Final Accounts, and the EDP section of the Bursary Unit on the third floor. Additionally, she inspected the Legal Unit and Budget Office, both located on the fourth floor of the UNILAG Senate House.
Accompanied by Professor Olufemi Shaibu, the Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, Prof. Ogunsola engaged with staff members, discussing operational processes and addressing specific challenges. She reiterated the importance of streamlining administrative procedures through automation, aiming for greater efficiency, user-friendliness, and productivity.
UNILAG staff are encouraged to explore NELFUND as a valuable resource for supporting their children’s educational aspirations. The initiative represents a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and tertiary institutions to ensure accessible and affordable higher education for all.
