Federal University Lokoja Shut Down Indefinitely After Fatal Accident

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has been closed down indefinitely following a tragic trailer accident that claimed the lives of five students on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Despite interventions from the Kogi State Government and appeals from the university management for calm, students barricaded the university gates, prompting the closure .

The university's registrar, Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, announced the indefinite closure in a circular, citing safety concerns and advice from state security officials. Students have been directed to vacate the campuses by 12 noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

The accident, which occurred at Felele city centre, sparked protests from students, who demanded improved road safety measures around the university area. The situation remains tense, with students calling for accountability and action from the authorities .
