Federal University Lokoja Vice-Chancellor Visits Kogi State DSS Director to Bolster Campus Safety

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening security architecture and fostering inter-agency collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, paid a courtesy visit to the Kogi State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the State Command Headquarters.

The visit underscores the University’s commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, research, and community engagement.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the critical importance of proactive security measures in tertiary institutions, especially in light of emerging security challenges across the country. He noted that universities, as centres of intellectual engagement and large gatherings of students and staff, must continually review and strengthen their security frameworks.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the DSS for its steadfast dedication to safeguarding national security and maintaining public order. He reiterated the University’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Service through intelligence sharing, joint security assessments, periodic engagements, and strategic advisory support.

According to him, security is a collective responsibility that requires synergy among institutions and security agencies. He stressed that the University Management is determined to adopt preventive and intelligence-driven approaches to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure within the University community.

In his response, the Kogi State Director of the DSS appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the proactive initiative and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to supporting the University. He assured the institution of sustained cooperation, intelligence support, and professional guidance in strengthening campus security.

The DSS Director further highlighted the importance of continuous engagement between educational institutions and security agencies to address potential threats before they escalate. He encouraged the University to maintain open communication channels and to promptly report suspicious activities.
