FG Introduces New Measures to Eliminate WAEC, NECO Examination Malpractice from 2026
The Federal Government has unveiled a new set of measures aimed at eliminating examination malpractice in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations from 2026 onward.

The initiative forms part of broader reforms targeted at strengthening the credibility, transparency, and public confidence in Nigeria’s national assessment system.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the disclosure was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, in conjunction with the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmed.

The ministers stated that the Federal Ministry of Education is intensifying oversight mechanisms and deploying targeted strategies designed to safeguard the integrity of national examinations, curb malpractice, and ensure that examination outcomes accurately reflect candidates’ performance.
The reforms are expected to take full effect during the 2026 examination cycle and subsequent years.
