FG Orders Enforcement of “No Work, No Pay” Policy as ASUU Embarks on Strike

The Federal Government has directed Vice-Chancellors of all federal universities to enforce the “no work, no pay” policy in line with existing labour laws following the nationwide strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday.

The Federal Government has directed Vice-Chancellors of all federal universities to enforce the “no work, no pay” policy in line with existing labour laws following the nationwide strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the government emphasized that all employees who fail to perform their duties during the strike period will not be entitled to salaries.

Dr. Alausa instructed the Vice-Chancellors to ensure strict compliance with the directive, including conducting roll calls and submitting reports on staff participation to the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The statement further noted that

only members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) are exempted from the directive.

The Minister urged ASUU to return to the negotiation table, reiterating that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening the nation’s education sector through constructive dialogue and sustained engagement.
