Siphokazi Gatyeni-Dube, an exceptional woman, has shattered barriers and made history as the first black woman and the first individual to attain a Doctorate degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in South Africa.

Securing a bursary from the Department of Education, Siphokazi completed her high school education, showcasing resilience and determination. Her academic journey continued at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), where she graduated with distinction with a National Diploma in Mathematical Technology. Undeterred by challenges, she pursued further studies at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) at Stellenbosch University, earning a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Mathematics, once again with distinction.
Siphokazi's groundbreaking achievement as the first black woman to earn a Doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Johannesburg is a testament to her tenacity and academic excellence.
