Dr. Olaitan Adesomoju, the immediate past president of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Alumni Association Worldwide, has donated ₦1 million for the renovation of the university’s Students Union Building. The donation, announced on Friday, November 8, 2024, signifies a powerful gesture of support from an alumnus with a longstanding legacy of contributions to his alma mater.

Adesomoju, a former Vice President of FUTA’s Students Union (1999/2000), expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to give back to a place that catalyzed his journey in leadership. “This community has given me so much, and I’m honored to showcase another aspect of my comradeship with this donation,” he stated. Over the last decade, Adesomoju has contributed to various campus projects, including renovating Block C in Akindeko Hall, establishing the Alumni Event Centre, drilling a borehole at the FUTA Teaching and Research Farm, and upgrading sports facilities, such as the basketball and volleyball courts, with a total of over ₦3.2 million.

Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji praised Dr. Adesomoju for his commitment to FUTA, describing him as a “partner in progress.” She called on other alumni to emulate his actions, emphasizing the collective responsibility of building a FUTA that future generations would be proud of.

Professor David Oke, the Dean of Student Affairs, and Student Union President Mr. Adegoroye Abejoye also commended Adesomoju’s contributions. Abejoye noted that this donation strengthens the resolve of current student leaders, fostering a more impactful, intellectual leadership approach.
