FULafia Hosts NSAP Golden Jubilee Conference, Advocates Circular Bio-Economy in Livestock Production

The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) recently hosted the 50th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP), emphasizing the need for a circular bio-economy in livestock production to drive food security, wealth creation, and economic development.

 

Dr. Mustapha Ayodele Popoola, Special Envoy to the Minister of Agriculture, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of sustainable livestock systems and commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's vision for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

 

The conference, themed "Exploring Transformations in Animal Agriculture for Food Security, Wealth Creation, and Economic Growth," brought together stakeholders to discuss the future of animal agriculture in Nigeria.

Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa State emphasized the importance of innovation, sustainability, and private-sector involvement in animal agriculture, while reaffirming the state's position as a key player in Nigeria's livestock industry.

 

The Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, expressed gratitude to the National Executive Council of NSAP for granting the university the hosting rights and acknowledged the support of distinguished guests.

The conference highlighted the need for investment in research and development of technology in agriculture, as emphasized by HRH Lawrence Sylvester Ayih II, chairman of the occasion.

 

By adopting circular bio-economy principles, Nigeria's livestock industry can minimize waste, optimize resources, and promote climate-smart livestock production, ultimately driving economic growth and development .
