Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) plans to establish a Quantity Surveying Department within the Faculty of Environmental Design, according to Vice-Chancellor Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman.

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has announced plans to establish a Department of Quantity Surveying at the University. The proposed department will be part of the Faculty of Environmental Design.

This announcement was made during a recent meeting with members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Nasarawa State Chapter, at the Vice-Chancellor's office in Lafia. Professor Abdul Rahman emphasized the importance of quantity surveyors in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of project execution, highlighting the role they play in the optimal use of resources.

"The establishment of the Quantity Surveying Department is crucial to achieving excellence in project management and resource utilization within the University," said Abdul Rahman. He further explained that after the upcoming resource verification and accreditation of certain courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the University would develop a curriculum for the new department.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the performance of NIQS members working within FULafia, noting that one of their members had been appointed as the Head of the University's Physical Planning Directorate. He urged continued collaboration between the University and the NIQS to uphold high standards in all projects.

The NIQS delegation, led by the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Chapter, QS Ibrahim Mohammed Otaki, expressed their gratitude for the appointment of QS Yusuf Obiya as the Head of Physical Planning at FULafia. Otaki praised Professor Abdul Rahman for his dedication to academic excellence and his commitment to the development of the University and the community.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of a souvenir and a working document for the establishment of the Quantity Surveying Department by QS Otaki to Professor Abdul Rahman.
