FULafia's Prof. Ozegya Calls for Enhanced Support and Funding for Education of Disabled Students in Nigeria
Ozegya also called on FULafia's management to expand the FULafia Academy to primary and secondary schools and establish an institute of education for training in-service teachers.
Abu Egwa Ozegya, a professor of special needs education at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has called for prioritizing the education of children with disabilities. Speaking at the 18th professorial inaugural lecture of the university, Ozegya emphasized the need for increased funding to promote effective learning and inclusivity in Nigeria.
In his lecture titled "Communication Strategies, Inclusive Practices and Education of Children with Hearing Impairment," Ozegya highlighted inadequacies such as poorly equipped schools, a shortage of specialist teachers, and insufficient political will. He urged collaboration among stakeholders to ensure education opportunities for all children within inclusive programs.
Ozegya also called on FULafia's management to expand the FULafia Academy to primary and secondary schools and establish an institute of education for training in-service teachers.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman and Professor Josephine Odey, Chairman of the Inaugural Lecture Committee, praised Ozegya's contributions. The lecture was attended by dignitaries, including the Osana of Keana, Alhaji Abdullahi Amegwa Agbo III, and various officials and academics. The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate, plaque, and gift to Ozegya.
