The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has restated the university's commitment to the realization of the vision and goals for the establishment of the Nike University Gallery of Arts, as envisioned by its donor, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Davies-Okundaye, noting that the center holds enormous potential and great opportunities for the institution if properly utilized.

Speaking during a working visit to the art center on May 8, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor, who was thrilled by the elegance and artistic beauty of the complex, commended the donor for her foresight and philanthropic gesture in citing the center at Federal University Lokoja, which is being managed by the Department of Archaeology and Museum Studies (DAMS).

Professor Ibileye, accompanied by members of his team, was conducted around the facility and witnessed firsthand the remarkable progress being made in the ongoing work under the supervision of the DAMS through its strategic partnership and support from the renowned textile artist and matriarch of Nigerian art, Chief Nike Okundaye (Mama Nike), whose enduring legacy continues to inspire innovation within the creative industry.

While calling on the Director of the Center and Head of the Department of Archaeology and Museum Studies, Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul-Kolade Tubi, on the need to maintain a high standard for the center, the Vice-Chancellor challenged him and his team to make a bold statement that would further project the university into national and global limelight.

He urged the management of the art gallery to begin preparations for activities ahead of the university’s next convocation, particularly an exhibition that would feature notable artists, including graduates of the Federal University Lokoja. According to him, such an exhibition would provide the gallery with a unique opportunity to showcase its potential and contributions to artistic development.

“We pledge, as management, our unwavering support to your success. We also wish to place on record our appreciation for the commitment and dedication demonstrated by you and your team," he stated.
