The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked among the top 10 universities in Nigeria for active e-resource utilization. This recognition comes from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which recently conducted a ranking of all public higher institutions across Nigeria, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The announcement was made during a recent training organized by TETFund in Abuja, aimed at raising awareness about the TERAS database, a resource subscribed to by TETFund on behalf of all higher institutions. In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, represented by the Director of ICT, Dr. Joseph Odo, revealed the list of universities with the highest utilization of the database. FUNAAB was highlighted as one of the top ten institutions actively using this valuable e-resource.

The Executive Secretary encouraged other universities to follow the example set by these top-performing institutions, noting that despite significant investment by the Federal Government in subscribing to the database, overall usage among academic staff remains below expectations.

In a related development, the University Library at FUNAAB recently organized an e-journals and e-books awareness day to educate academic staff on the importance of utilizing e-resources to enhance research output. The University Librarian, Prof. Kehinde Owolabi, expressed satisfaction with the university’s ranking and highlighted ongoing efforts to transform the library into a world-class facility equipped with state-of-the-art resources. Prof. Owolabi also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for his unwavering support of the library’s initiatives.
