The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) welcomed a delegation from the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) on September 3, 2024, to discuss a partnership aimed at harmonizing waste management programs across higher institutions in the state. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo.

During the meeting, Mr. Egbemuyiwa Ajani, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at OGWAMA, highlighted the Ogun State Government’s commitment to collaborating with educational institutions to ensure their waste management practices align with state guidelines and regulations. He emphasized the importance of learning from FUNAAB’s waste management strategies and viewed the partnership as an opportunity for knowledge exchange that could lead to the widespread adoption of best practices.

Mr. Ajani also pointed out the economic potential of effective waste management, noting that the government possesses crucial information for maximizing these benefits and that investors prefer engaging with government bodies over individuals.

Prof. Adebayo expressed gratitude for the state government’s initiative and the inclusion of FUNAAB in this collaborative effort. He welcomed the opportunity, noting that waste management offers new frontiers for innovation.

The meeting concluded with a group photo of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, and the visiting OGWAMA team, including the Coordinator, DEM, Mr. Olanrewaju Bello, and another top official of DEM, Mr. Dennis Ifezue.
