The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reaffirmed its position as a major driver of human capital development in Ogun State, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, stating that the University has consistently supplied the State and the nation with high-quality manpower.

Prof. Kehinde made this assertion on Tuesday, January 28, 2026, during a Press Conference held ahead of the University’s 33rd Convocation Ceremony. He disclosed that a total of 4,141 students would be graduating across various academic programmes at the ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
He described FUNAAB as a critical partner in Ogun State’s development over the years, noting that its alumni have made significant contributions in agriculture, science, technology, education, industry and public service within the State and beyond.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, FUNAAB, since its establishment 38 years ago, has remained faithful to its core mandate of producing skilled, innovative and ethically grounded graduates capable of responding to both local and global challenges. He explained that the University’s programmes are deliberately structured to integrate sound theoretical knowledge with practical training, entrepreneurship, research, innovation and community engagement.
Prof. Kehinde stated that the consistent quality of FUNAAB graduates reflects the confidence placed in the institution by government, parents, employers of labour and development partners. He added that many alumni of the University are currently playing key roles in driving socio-economic growth in Ogun State.
He further emphasised that FUNAAB graduates are not only academically competent but also solution-driven, self-reliant and globally competitive, qualities that align with Ogun State’s development aspirations as it marks its 50th anniversary.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to members of the media for their sustained support and partnership with the University, assuring them that FUNAAB would continue to contribute meaningfully to state and national development through Teaching, Research and Community Service.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Wale Olanrewaju, commended Prof. Kehinde for what he described as focused and purposeful leadership that has repositioned FUNAAB.
Mr. Olanrewaju particularly praised the University’s success in curbing social vices on campus, attributing it to Management’s strong emphasis on academic excellence, discipline and the in loco parentis mentorship approach.
He described FUNAAB as a model institution where serious academic engagement and structured mentorship have replaced deviant behaviours, creating a conducive environment for learning and character development.

Other dignitaries at the press conference included principal officers of the University, Deans, Directors and journalists from various media organisations across Ogun State, among them the Acting Chairman, Ogun State Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr. Peter Moses.
