The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has applauded the Federal Government for the remarkable improvements in passport operations and the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s immigration service, particularly with the introduction of the E-visa application system.

Professor Oladiji made the remarks while receiving the Ondo State Comptroller of Immigration, Felicia Anara, and her team on a courtesy visit to the university on August 12, 2025.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the various types of visa opportunities now available will ease the process for foreign students and scholars seeking entry into Nigeria. “We must thank the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for the innovation he brought on board. You have helped to fill in gaps. We do have foreign postgraduate students, and last year, we had challenges with some of them coming to begin their programmes. When asked to pay 400 dollars, many of them felt it was too high. Now we can engage with you to resolve such issues,” she said.

Oladiji assured that the university would disseminate the information to benefit students and stakeholders. “We have students from West African countries, and now that you have spoken with us, we will communicate this through their coordinators. More importantly, we have the International Strategy Office that coordinates our international activities,” she added.

Commending Comptroller Anara’s leadership, the Vice Chancellor praised her experience and noted that her tenure would bring innovations and improvements to the Ondo State Immigration Office.

In her remarks, Comptroller Anara explained that the visit was also to honour Professor Oladiji as FUTA’s first female Vice Chancellor. She praised her achievements, saying, “Often, women are not given such opportunities, but for you to attain this position shows it is well deserved. I congratulate you. Keep the flag flying high and break the boundaries men couldn’t break. I believe you will leave records that others will find difficult to match.”

On the reforms within the Immigration Service, Anara highlighted the ongoing digital transformation aimed at improving service delivery and national security. “Our passport process has been automated. From the comfort of your home, you can fill in forms, make payments, print necessary documents, and then proceed to the nearest immigration office for capturing. These are part of the initiatives we have put in place to ensure seamless service delivery,” she said.
