FUTA Vice Chancellor Urges Secondary School Students to Thoughtfully Navigate Career Choices, Emphasizing Informed Decision-Making in Light of the 33rd Convocation Ceremony

In a bid to guide secondary school students towards making well-informed career decisions, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), emphasized the importance of intentional career planning. This advice was imparted during a Career Sensitization Program held on Tuesday, as part of the activities commemorating the 33rd convocation ceremony of FUTA.
Professor Oladiji encouraged students to conscientiously gather information about various career options. Emphasizing the significance of recognizing one's strengths in secondary school subjects, she urged students to seek counsel when choosing career paths, emphasizing that such diligence is crucial for future success.

Cautioning against the indiscriminate use of the internet, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the need for disciplined utilization of online resources. She stressed that excessive use could lead to addiction, diverting students from academic excellence. Professor Oladiji advised against succumbing to peer pressure, urging students to align their career choices with their interests and innate abilities.
Professor Adebanjo Badejo, Chairman of the Career Talk Sub-Committee, outlined the program's objective, aiming to introduce students to a diverse array of career choices while mentoring and nurturing them for higher education. Representatives from FUTA's various schools enlightened students on entry requirements and post-graduation job prospects.

The event, attended by students from several secondary schools including FUTA Staff Secondary School, Akure Muslim College, Oyemekun Grammar School, and St. Louis Girls Grammar School, emphasized the significance of physical and mental preparation for the challenges of higher education. Parents and teachers were also advised to avoid imposing careers on children and instead focus on identifying areas where students can excel.
