FUTA Wins Award for Best Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has been awarded the title of Best Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria by the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC).
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has been honored with the Award for the Best Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria by the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC). The award was presented during the 37th Induction Ceremony of new TOPREC members in Abuja on July 25, 2024.

Professor Isaac Aje, Dean of the School of Environmental Technology (SET), and Professor Joseph Basorun, Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), received the award on behalf of FUTA. This recognition follows a thorough accreditation visit by TOPREC, which acknowledged FUTA's outstanding standards in urban and regional planning education.
TOPREC's Acting Registrar, TPL Uhiere Samuel Abayomi, praised FUTA for its high quality of knowledge, training, and skills in the field. This is the third time FUTA’s URP Department has received this accolade, having previously won in 2014 and 2018.
Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji expressed her gratitude and pride, highlighting the dedication of the faculty and students. She assured continued support and resources to enhance the university's programs further.
Professor Aje emphasized the department's success is due to its exceptional staff and facilities, with many members being registered town planners and professors. He also thanked Professor Oladiji for her role in elevating the university’s status.
