Futh Lafia Sickle Cell Club Exco Pays Courtesy Visit To Cmd

The Chief Medical Director of Federal University Teaching Hospital, FUTH, Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, has assured the newly elected Executive Committee of the FUTH Lafia Sickle Cell Club of his total support towards achieving the Club’s objectives.

The EXCO, elected on 19 June 2026 and led by the Club President, Mr. Akwe Abubakar, paid a courtesy visit to seek Management’s support for subsidised treatment of sickle cell patients, including blood transfusion services and hip replacement surgery.

The Club also proposed advocacy for a bill before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to make premarital sickle cell screening compulsory and to promote subsidised treatment for people living with sickle cell disease.

The CMD assured the Club that Management would provide the necessary support to make its activities successful.

Earlier, the Club’s initiator, Dr. Ozhe Sunday, appreciated Management for providing the platform for the establishment of the Club. He said the Club was created to promote sickle cell awareness, support patients and their families, and advocate for improved care and policies.

The visit underscores FUTH Lafia’s commitment to strengthening comprehensive, patient-centred sickle cell care.
