FUTIA Makes Maiden Appearance At 27th NUGA Games In Jos

The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has officially made its debut at the 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), currently taking place in Jos, Plateau State, from Wednesday, November 5 to Sunday, November 16, 2025.

The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has officially made its debut at the 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), currently taking place in Jos, Plateau State, from Wednesday, November 5 to Sunday, November 16, 2025.

Established in June 2021 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, FUTIA’s participation marks its first-ever appearance at the national university sports festival, signaling a milestone in the institution’s growing profile in tertiary sports and student development.

The University’s contingent, comprising staff and students, is jointly led by Dr. Colombus Udofot, Chairman of the University Senate Committee on Sports, and Mr. Uboho Uku, the University’s Sports Coach. The team is expected to compete across several sporting events lined up for participating universities during the week-long festival.

In a goodwill message conveyed through the Secretary General of NUGA, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTIA, Professor Leo Daniel, congratulated the Management, Technical Committee, and Organizing Team of NUGA on hosting the historic 27th edition of the Games.

Professor Daniel commended NUGA’s mission to promote sports as a vital component of university education, describing it as a platform that fosters health, discipline, and academic excellence among students. He highlighted the association’s broader goals of developing student-athletes for national and international competitions, promoting unity and youth empowerment, combating drug abuse through sports, and enhancing community engagement.

“As one of the strategic stakeholders in national development, we pledge our commitment to contributing our institutional quota toward advancing the ideals of NUGA, as reflected in FUTIA’s registration and participation in this year’s Games,” Professor Daniel stated.

He further extended best wishes to all athletes, contingents, officials, sponsors, and institutional leaders taking part in the event, saying, “As we converge in the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’—Jos, Plateau State—I wish everyone a successful, hitch-free competition and a safe return after the Games.”
