FUTIA Strengthens Industry Collaboration as Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers Pays Courtesy Visit

The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) on Monday, October 6, 2025, hosted officials of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Akwa Ibom/Cross River States Chapter, on a courtesy visit to the University’s Take-off Campus.

The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) on Monday, October 6, 2025, hosted officials of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Akwa Ibom/Cross River States Chapter, on a courtesy visit to the University’s Take-off Campus.

The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, alongside members of the University Management Team.

Leading the NSChE delegation, Engr. Ikemesit Orok, Chapter Chairman, commended the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for the institution’s smooth take-off and remarkable progress as a specialized university.

He pledged the Association’s commitment to a strategic corporate partnership with FUTIA in several areas, including:

  • Professional expertise and academic collaboration.
  • Faculty exchange programmes.
  • In-service training for staff and students.
  • Provision of industrial attachment and linkage programmes through International Oil Companies (IOCs).
  • Industry networking and knowledge sharing.

As part of the visit, the Association donated laboratory coats to support students of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering during practical sessions.

In his response, Professor Leo Daniel expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Association’s gesture and proposed partnership, describing it as a major step toward bridging academia-industry relations in the field of engineering and technology.

Delivering a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mrs. Offiongita Nkang, conveyed Management’s gratitude to the NSChE for their generosity and collaborative spirit. She called on other professional bodies, individuals, and organizations to emulate the Society’s example in supporting the growth of the University.

Other members of FUTIA Management present included the Acting Provost, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Dr. Whyte Akpan; Acting Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Bassey Okon; Acting Head of Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Rasheed Babalola; and Engr. Inuaeyen Inuaeyen of the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering.

The NSChE delegation also featured the Vice Chairman, Engr. Emmanuel Ebong; Engr. Prof. Innocent Oboh; and Engr. Cosmas Ekanem, among other senior members of the Association.
