FUTMINNA Hosts 2025 "Summer with DOME" STEM Outreach Programme

The Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), has launched the 2025 edition of its flagship STEM outreach programme, "Summer with DOME".

The two-week programme, running from August 4 to 15, is being held at the SNEPCO Hall and the Advanced Engineering and Innovation Centre (AEIC) on the main campus.

The programme features two tracks: "She Inspires STEM: Summer With Her" for girls, focusing on AI and drone technology, and "Next-Gen Innovators", introducing students aged 9-18 to IoT and embedded systems through hands-on learning.

Over 160 students, mostly from secondary schools in Minna and children of FUTMINNA staff, are participating in the programme.

Participants are engaging in projects such as water level indicators, traffic light systems using Arduino, Scratch programming, AI models, and drone piloting.

The programme is backed by a grant from IEEE Try Engineering, secured through FUTMINNA's IEEE student chapter.

The Advanced Engineering Innovation Research Group, led by Dr. Abubakar S. Ahmad and Dr. Jibril Bala, is providing academic oversight to ensure the technical content meets academic standards.

The programme aims to promote STEM education and inspire young innovators, particularly girls, to pursue careers in science and technology.

The initiative reflects FUTMINNA's commitment to community development and youth employment through STEM.

The programme will conclude with a project showcase and certificate award ceremony, celebrating the students' achievements and hands-on innovations.
