Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has inaugurated four science laboratories at Union Boys Secondary School, Awkunanaw, funded by the MTN Foundation's Science & Technology Laboratory project.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has officially inaugurated four state-of-the-art science laboratories at Union Boys Secondary School, Awkunanaw, Enugu, a significant initiative funded by the MTN Foundation through its Science & Technology Laboratory project. This initiative aims to enhance technological advancement among students, with the laboratories dedicated to Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Agricultural Science.

During the commissioning, Governor Mbah, represented by Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, praised the MTN Foundation for its impactful contributions to the development of Enugu State, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, road infrastructure, and water provision. He emphasized that the foundation has demonstrated its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and remains a leading network provider in the country.

"We are currently building 260 smart schools, which will be 100 percent digitalized and cater to education from cradle to Junior Secondary School level for each child in the state," Mbah stated. He also highlighted MTN's involvement in the construction of the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Dual Carriageway and other community-focused projects.

The governor urged the school’s old boys association to take responsibility for monitoring the usage and safety of the newly provided facilities.

Mrs. Odunayo Sanya, Executive Director of MTN Foundation, announced plans to construct a solar-powered water borehole, ensuring 24-hour water availability to the laboratories to facilitate their optimal functioning.

Rev. Prof. Sam Ike, Anglican Bishop of Enugu and proprietor of the school, expressed his gratitude for the initiative, stating that the laboratories would rejuvenate the teaching and learning of science, making it more engaging for both teachers and students.

This partnership marks another step towards improving educational resources and opportunities for students in Enugu State, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering a brighter future through enhanced educational infrastructure.
