Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a collaborative initiative with the Finnish government to refurbish technical colleges and re-launch vocational education across the state. This initiative is designed to tackle the pressing issue of youth unemployment and to enhance the vocational skills of the youth, which have been in decline.

The governor made the announcement during a funeral service at the Ajegunle Baptist Church in Saki for the late Chief Michael Koleoso, a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government. He emphasized the critical need for vocational training amid growing concerns about the lack of skills among young people and the diminishing focus on technical education.

In his speech, Governor Makinde highlighted the wise counsel he received from the late Chief Koleoso, stating that his insights significantly influenced both his personal growth and the administration of the state. The governor fondly recalled that Chief Koleoso had a profound commitment to community development and had advised him on various state matters, including ongoing road rehabilitation projects in Ibadan.

Reflecting on his recent trip to Finland, Makinde shared that discussions with Finnish education officials underscored the importance of prioritizing technical education over traditional academic qualifications. He reaffirmed his commitment to refurbishing the Saki Technical College and its counterpart in Ibadan, stating that these projects would commence with the 2025 budget, supported by the Finnish government.

Additionally, the governor pledged to complete the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road in memory of the late chief, emphasizing the economic interconnection of the surrounding local governments to Saki. Plans are also in place to extend the road from Igboho to Igbeti and Kisi, as well as to improve the spur connecting Agbonle in Saki East Local Government.

Governor Makinde's announcement and tribute to Chief Koleoso were met with widespread approval, highlighting the late politician’s legacy of selflessness and dedication to community service. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also paid tribute to Chief Koleoso's virtues and promised to collaborate with the Oyo State Government to honor the late political figure's contributions to the nation.

The funeral service attracted notable dignitaries, including members of the National Assembly and various state officials, underscoring the impact of Chief Koleoso’s life and work within Oyo State and beyond.
