In a shocking revelation during a Thanksgiving Holy Mass on Sunday, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu State, Rev Father Christian Anieke, has issued a stern warning to dispose of 33 corpses left unattended in the university's Teaching Hospital for the past 18 years.

Anieke urged the public to visit the former Ntasi Obi Ndi Nona Afufu, Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu, and identify whether any of the abandoned corpses belonged to their relatives.

During the Holy Mass, Anieke disclosed that the corpses had lingered in the hospital's morgue for almost two decades without any claims or inquiries. He emphasized that the Enugu High Court had granted an order for the hospital's management to conduct a mass burial if the corpses were not claimed within the 21-day deadline.

The Vice Chancellor described the situation as challenging and clarified that the directive aimed to facilitate the renovation of the hospital's morgue to meet the standards befitting a teaching hospital.

Anieke admonished families with relatives among the 33 corpses to promptly claim and provide them with dignified burials before the court-ordered deadline.

In additional announcements, Anieke revealed that Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is set to commence admissions for its school of nursing and midwifery by January 2024. He assured that the academic and administrative staff, along with necessary facilities, including a bus donated by the Parents Forum of the university, are prepared for the launch of these new courses.

Commending the staff for their commitment, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the university's reputation for discipline and urged them to continue striving for more achievements as new tertiary institutions look to Godfrey Okoye University for leadership.

As the university prepares for significant developments, the fate of the abandoned corpses remains uncertain, with the court's deadline looming over the Teaching Hospital's management.
