GSU Management Bolsters Campus Security Following Intruder Attack on Final-Year Student
The Management of Gombe State University (GSU) has announced a comprehensive review of its security protocols following an attack on a final-year female student by an intruder in the early hours of Monday, January 19, 2026.
In a press statement signed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, H.N. Ligari, the institution confirmed that the incident took place at the Female Hostel while most students were away on break. The victim, who remained on campus to prepare for her final project defense, reportedly sustained a deep laceration to her hands while heroically defending herself against the assailant.
University security personnel responded promptly to the scene, and the student was immediately transported for medical treatment. Following an assessment by the university’s medical team, she has been declared stable.
The Vice-Chancellor and senior management officials visited the hostel site on Monday to conduct a firsthand assessment of the security breach. The University Management expressed deep regret over the occurrence and reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the student body.
“The University reassures all students, staff, and the public that measures are being strengthened to ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus,” the statement read. “The institution remains committed to providing a safe learning and living environment for all.”
Investigation into the breach is ongoing, and the university has pledged to implement stricter access controls to prevent future occurrences
