Gwale Local Government Council Seeks Support from BUK Management

The Gwale Local Government Council, led by its Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Honourable Abubakar Mu'azu Yusuf (aka 'Mojo'), paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The purpose of the visit was to seek support from the University management in addressing the challenges of insecurity facing the Dorayi community and other areas within the local government.

Honourable Yusuf explained that the council had already contacted the Kano State Police Commissioner regarding the issue and had received approval to deploy an anti-'daba' squad to tackle the menace of insecurity in the community. He requested the support of the Vice-Chancellor in allocating a small portion of the University's land along the ITF and Emir's House in Dorayi community, bordering the southwest wall of BUK's Old Campus, to erect a temporary unit of the anti-'daba' squad near 'Gidan Bread' to address the security challenges in the area.

In response, Professor Abbas expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the severity of the security challenges in Dorayi, attributing them to various factors such as illiteracy, unemployment, drug abuse, and poor parenting. He emphasized the importance of judiciously utilizing local government funds to educate the populace and offered the University's partnership in training the local youth in short courses to develop their skills.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and political instability. He assured the council of the University's support in addressing the security challenges and promoting peace and development in the community."
